GURUGRAM: A Delhi-based YouTuber with over 6 lakh subscribers was arrested by Gurugram police on Tuesday for allegedly extorting Rs 80 lakh from the owner of an advertisement firm after threatening to lodge a false
rape case against him.
Namra Qadir (22) was remanded in police custody for four days. The cops are looking for her husband, Virat Beniwal, who is untraceable.
The police action followed a complaint by Dinesh Yadav, who owns an ad firm in Badshahpur.
Yadav told the police that he got in touch with Qadir in connection with the shooting of an ad film. The two struck a deal for Rs 2 lakh for the entire shot. Later, the YouTuber asked for Rs 50,000 more, Yadav said, adding that he agreed to pay the amount.
But the shooting never took off. “When I asked her about the delay, she said shooting the ad film was just an excuse. She proposed marriage to me and said she would return the money after her sister’s marriage. Since I, too, liked her, we started meeting more often,” Yadav said.
Yadav alleged that Qadir introduced Beniwal as her best friend and he would often accompany them on their outings. During one such session, the trio went to a club and got drunk. Later, they booked a hotel room.
“When I woke up the next morning, Qadir asked for my debit card and Apple watch. She said that if I refused, she would frame me in a false
rape case. Beniwal whipped out a pistol and pointed at me,” the firm owner alleged.
Yadav claimed that since then, he had given cash and valuables worth Rs 80 lakh to Qadir and Beniwal. When he ran out of money, Yadav approached his father and sought help. His father smelt something amiss and asked if there was anything wrong. Yadav confided in him.
The father-son duo approached the police and lodged a complaint. An FIR was registered at Sector 50 police station under sections 328 (causing hurt by means of poison), 34 (common Intention), 388 (extortion by threat of accusation), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
“We have been conducting searches at various places to arrest Virat Beniwal. He will be nabbed soon,” said a senior police officer.
